PA commemorates Filipino soldiers’ heroism in 70th Korean War anniversary wreath-laying

The Philippine Army joined war veterans in commemorating the upcoming 70th anniversary of the Korean War in a wreath-laying rite at the Korean War Memorial Pylon, Libingan ng mga Bayani, Taguig City on June 17, 2022.

Surviving Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea (PEFTOK) veterans and several members of the Korean community in the Philippines accompanied President Elpidio Quirino Foundation Trustee Socorro Alicia "Cory" Quirino who served as the event’s guest of honor and speaker.

Ms. Quirino, in her speech, paid tribute to the gallantry, heroism and sterling performance of the 7,420 troops sent by the Philippine government to help stave off a communist invasion of South Korea in the early 1950s.

It can be recalled that 70 years ago, the PEFTOK, composed of five Battalion Combat Teams, braved unfamiliar territory to aid South Korea in defending its territory against communist aggression.
