COL IVAN V SAN JOSE O-11965 MNSA (INF) PA served his early military career with the infantry and intelligence in the 7th, 2nd, and 9th Infantry Divisions. He also taught PMA cadets on military science, leadership, and literature; and drilled, disciplined, and secured them. At Headquarters Philippine Army, he served as acting Secretary Army General Staff; Chief of the Production Branch, Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, G2; Secretary Army General Staff; and Deputy Chief, Office of the International Military Affairs. He led the 18th Infantry Battalion based in Basilan from 2018 to 2020 and Chief of Staff, Headquarters and Headquarters Support Group before being designated as Chief of Staff, 9th Infantry Division.
He is decorated with 86 medals including the Outstanding Achievement Medal, Distinguished Service Stars, Gawad sa Kapayapaan, Gold Cross, and spearhead devices for the Military Merit Medal. He is also the PMA Junior Officer of the Year (2007) and a Best Company Commander (1999).
Colonel San Jose holds a Master of Arts in English degree, cum laude; Master in Public Management Major in Development and Security, with honors; and Master in National Security Administration, with academic distinction. His post graduate works hybridize security, literature, military leadership, training, education, language, intelligence, and peace including a proposal of the “Bulaklak ng Siyam na Talulot” for peace education in the country. The Colonel had been raised in Dominican and Jesuit traditions before graduating with the Philippine Military Academy Marilag Class of 1995.
