FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila– The Special Forces Regiment (Airborne) installed a new commander on Wednesday, December 5, 2018.
The Change of Command Ceremony was led by the Commanding General Philippine Army Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto. Outgoing Brig. Gen. Ramiro Manuel A. Rey formally turned over the responsibilities of leading the SFR(A) to his predecessor Brig. Gen. Reynaldo M. Aquino.
“As you assume the leadership, endeavor plans and programs aimed at making our Special Forces at par with that of other countries around the world. Set goals for the SFR(A)’s long-term capability development, not just in terms of equipment but in competencies,” said Lt. Gen. Alberto in his speech.
Brig. Gen. Aquino is member of the Philippine Military Academy Sinagtala Class of 1986. He is a graduate of Master of Science in Defense Analysis at the US Naval Post Graduate School in the US. He is a Special Forces and intelligence officer.
Prior to his post he was the Deputy Commander AFP SOCOM. His other stints included various leadership posts at the Light Reaction Regiment, AFP Joint Special Operations Group, and the PA SOCOM. He also played an important part in the liberation of Marawi from the hand of Daesh-inspired terrorists.
Brig. Gen. Aquino said in his speech, “the first order of the day as your new commander is for us to remain professional and dedicated to our core values and oath as professionals and global warriors. While in the performance of your respective duties and responsibilities, may it be as subordinate commanders, as staff officers, as key NCOs or as just plain man in the ranks.”
The Philippine Army SFR(A) is among the elite units that embodies the Army’s constant efforts to develop world-class soldiers and Army capabilities. It has a major contribution on the Army’s efforts to achieve its vision to be a world-class army that is a source of national pride by 2028.#
