The Philippine Army installed a new Commander of the Army's 4th Infantry Division on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Camp Evangelista in Cagayan De Oro City.
Army's incoming 4ID Commander Brig. Gen. Wilbur C. Mamawag formally assumed the post from acting 4ID commander Brig. Gen. Oliver T. Vesliño in a Change of Command and Retirement Ceremony presided by Commanding General, Philippine Army (CGPA) Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr.
Prior to his assumption, Brig. Gen. Mamawag served as acting commander of the Army's 8th Infantry Division (8ID) from October 2021 to December 2021. He also served as Assistant Division Commander of 8ID; Commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade of the 6th Infantry Division; Chief of Staff of the Headquarters and Headquarters Support Group; and assistant chief of staff for intelligence of the 2nd Infantry Division.
Brig. Gen. Mamawag belongs to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Makatao” Class of 1989 and holds a Master in Public Management from the Development Academy of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Vesliño will bow out of service after nearly 38 years of service. He is a member of the PMA “Maringal” Class of 1988. He holds a Master in Management Major in Public Administration degree from the Philippine Christian University and completed the Human Rights Advocacy Course of the Commission on Human Rights, Region 7.
Brig. Gen. Vesliño took the helm of 4ID in an acting capacity after the former Major Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr. assumed as CGPA in December last year. Brig. Gen. Vesliño served as assistant division commander of 4ID for more than two years. He also led the Philippine Army Human Rights Office from October 2015 to September 2018 and the Armed Forces of the Philippines Human Rights Office from September 2018 to July 2019.
“To General Mamawag, I am sure that 4ID will be in very good hands. To General Vesliño, thank you for your service and good luck on the next chapter of life,” the CGPA remarked.
