Major General Robert M. Arevalo was assigned as the new Vice Commander of the Philippine Army in a Change of Chief of Office Ceremony held here on October 5. He replaced Major General Harold N. Cabreros who retired on October 7.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Gilbert I. Gapay replaced Arevalo as the Army Chief of Staff in another ceremony held Monday, October 9.
Arevalo, an expert logistician, is a member of the Philippine Miltary Academy (PMA) “Sandiwa” Class of 1985. He has a Master’s degree in Management. Before his stint as the Army Chief of Staff, he was the Commander of the Headquarters and Headquarters Support Group, PA in 2013 to 2016, Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics, G4, PA in 2010 to 2013, and the Assistant Chief of Staff for Comptrollership, G6, Training and Doctrine Command in 1999 to 2001.
Gapay, a decorated officer, is the topnotcher of the PMA “Sinagtala” Class of 1986. He has a Master’s degree in Management. Prior to his post, he was the Deputy Commander of the AFP’s Eastern Mindanao Command, Commander of the Joint Task Force Harribon that secured Davao City and the rest of Davao Region, and the spokesperson for the Martial Law implementation in Mindanao. He was also the Assistant Division Commander of the Mechanized Infantry Division(MID), PA in 2016, and the Commander of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade, MID, PA in 2014 to 2016.#
