FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army emboldened the culture of heroism in all its personnel as the Filipino nation commemorates the154th birth anniversary of Gat Andres Bonifacio, the founder of Katipunan, here and in other historic places on Thursday. A wreath-laying ceremony and commemorative program were held at the Andres Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan City which was attended by Lt. Gen. Rolando Joselito D Bauista, Commanding General of the Philippine Army.
Likewise, wreath-laying and commemoration ceremonies were also held in the monument of Andres Bonifacio at the Headquarters Philippine Army which was attended by Ms. Nerizza Distrito-Gaco, a descendant of Gat Andres Bonifacio.
As protectors of the people and the state, the army personnel once again rekindled the heroism that Gat Andres Bonifacio displayed during the Philippine Revolution, an ordinary Filipino who is ready to respond to the call of duty.
“Gat Andres Bonifacio is a hero to all of us not only because he fought for our freedom, but because he also taught us how to use the hard-won freedom in the best interests of our country and people,” said Lt. Gen. Bautista.
The Philippine Army also recalled the heroism of its soldiers in Marawi City in rescuing the hostages and liberating the city from the hands of the Daesh-inspired Maute terrorist group during the five-month siege, and in protecting the local communities from the communist terrorists.
“As we pay tribute to Gat Andres Bonifacio, let us instill this culture of heroism and go beyond our call of duties as we serve the people and secure the land,” Bautista added.#
