New Army Inspector General assumes post

Brig. Gen. Rommel K. Tello assumed as the new Philippine Army Inspector General in an assumption ceremony presided by Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., at the Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on February 24, 2023.
 
Brig. Gen. Tello served as the assistant division commander of the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division (2ID) prior to taking on his new post. He also served as acting 2ID division commander where he performed a major role in ensuring the efficiency of the administrative and operational aspects of the division down to its line units. Also, he served as the chief of staff of the Intelligence Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines; commander of the 901st Infantry Brigade of the 9th Infantry Division; and commander of the AFP Joint Task Group Taal.
 
Brig. Gen. Tello is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Bigkis-Lahi” Class of 1990. He holds a Master in Management, Major in Public Administration degree from the Philippine Christian University. He succeeded Maj. Gen. Jose Eriel M. Niembra who took the helm of the Davao Region-based 10th Infantry “Agila” Division last month.
 
”The man who will take the helm of the Office of the Inspector General is a well-accomplished leader. His expertise in diverse fields has proven his leadership competence in the Army. Together with the entire Team OTIG, I am counting on your leadership to constantly maintain the Philippine Army’s reputable image in the months ahead,” the Army Chief said in his remarks.
 
The Army’s Inspector General is mandated to provide complete oversight of the organizational performance of the 110,000-strong Philippine Army. OTIG plays a key role in facilitating the accomplishment of the organization's mission, operational readiness, security preparedness, morale and welfare of personnel, proper utilization of mission-essential resources, and ensuring institutional integrity.
