The joint operations by the elements from the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) and the Philippine National Police on the early morning of Sunday, March 5, 2023, yielded high powered firearms in Barangay Cansumalig, Bayawan City, Negros Oriental.
The joint Army-PNP operations resulted in the recovery of items including seven assault rifles (5.56mm); 2 B40 (RPG) with five pieces of ammunition; four long magazines; two short magazines; one .45 cal magazine; six bandoliers fully loaded with plates; one rifle case; two combat uniforms; one grey sweatshirt; and three pairs of combat boots. Said firearms and equipment were used by the suspects in the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel R. Degamo and several others.
The Army leadership commends the swift action of the combined elements of the 3ID and their PNP counterparts in recovering the said items and apprehending the suspects who are responsible for the killing of Governor Degamo and eight others while injuring 17 other persons. Rest assured that the Army remains steadfast to preserve the peace and supports stakeholders that justice is served in the province of Negros Oriental.
