Army champion boxer Pfc. Charly Suarez dented the record of previously undefeated Australian champion Paul Fleming via a 12th-round technical knockout in their bout at the Kevin Betts Stadium, Mount Druitt, New South Wales, Australia on March 15, 2023.
Pfc. Suarez, who outmatched the Australian boxer, snagged four belts including the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental, World Boxing Association (WBA) Oceania, World Boxing Council Asian Boxing Council, and the International Boxing Organization Intercontinental belts. The victory also qualifies the 34-year-old Army champion boxer to become the mandatory challenger to reigning IBO Super Featherweightweight champion Anthony Cacace of the United Kingdom.
Pfc. Suarez’s most recent victory added to the growing list of belts under his name which also includes the WBA Asia Super Featherweight belt, World Super Featherweight belt, and IBF Asia Super Featherweight belt. Pfc. Suarez, who is eyeing to win a world boxing championship belt, is a 2016 Olympian and three-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist.
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., lauded Pfc. Suarez for bringing glory not just for the Philippine Army but for the whole country. “Continue your winning momentum. Rest assured, we will support you all the way,” the Army Chief remarked.
