Army bolsters preparation amid Mayon Volcano unrest

The Army troops of the 9th Infantry “Spear” Division (9ID) continued to conduct humanitarian and disaster response (HADR) operations and partner with government agencies to bolster preparation for the unrest of Mayon Volcano on June 28-30, 2023.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported that a very slow effusion of lava from the summit crater of Mayon Volcano continued to feed lava flows and collapse debris on the southern gullies.

During the said volcanic activity, the troops of 9ID steered information dissemination in the communities to forewarn the residents within the 6-km radius permanent danger zone (PDZ). Meanwhile, in coordination with the Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), the troops provided transportation assistance during the evacuation, security assistance during a medical and dental mission to evacuees, and assisted in hauling 430 sacks of rice from the National Food Authority Warehouse. They provided workforce assistance during the unloading and turnover of food packs and water jugs from the Office of Municipal Welfare & Development to benefit the evacuees in the evacuation areas.

Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr. lauded the 9ID Army troops for their untiring efforts to assist the national government and stakeholders on disaster relief operations to help the affected communities in Albay.
