Army installs new housing chief

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The newly installed chief of the Army Housing Office (AHO) aims to provide safe shelters for Army personnel and their dependents as he assumes command on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, here.

Col. Lyndon J Sollesta took over the reins from Col. William L. Ilagan in a change of office ceremony presided by Maj. Gen. Jesus B. Sarsagat, the Army Chief of Staff.

In his assumption speech, Sollesta highlighted the future endeavors of the office in establishing a safe atmosphere for all its housing occupants.

“The AHO in collaboration with key stake holders and government agencies will help provide Army leadership, the Housing Board and the Army Transient Facilities Council geohazard assessment and occupational safety perspective of its housing sites and will recommend for interventions to increase the survivability of structures,” he said.

Sollesta was a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from University of San Agustin in 1986 before being commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the Philippine Army in 1988.

He was designated at numerous Army engineering units where in he served as the Battalion Commander of 3rd Infantry Division Engineer Combat Battalion in 2001. Sollesta also became the commanding officer of the Engineer and Maintenance and Support Battalion and the 565th Engineer Construction Battalion both of the 51st Engineer Brigade.

AHO is responsible in the utilization and managing of Philippine Army housing facilities, transient quarters, Armed Forces of the Philippines transient facilities and other housing projects. From July 2018 to February 2019, AHO was able to accommodate 26, 395 personnel and improve the repair and maintenance of married officers and enlisted personnel housing units.#
