Army installs new chief for personnel

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army installed the new Assistant Chief of Staff for Personnel, G1, here last July 23.

During the Change of Chief of Office Ceremony, Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Jesus B. Sarsagat presided the turnover of leadership to the incoming Col. Potenciano C. Camba from the outgoing Col. Marion R. Sison.

Before assuming the position, Camba served as the Deputy Group Commander of the Presidential Security Group based in Manila. He also commanded the 2nd Special Forces Battalion and 3rd Special Forces Battalion at the Special Forces Regiment (Airborne).

He holds a master’s degree in Public Management Major in Development Security from the Development Academy of the Philippines in 2012. He also finished the Command and General Staff Course from the Armed Forces of the Philippines Command and General Staff College in 2012, a Project Management and Integrated Logistics Support Training at the Philippines-Australia Defence Cooperation Program in 2000 and an Aviation Captain's Career Course at Fort Rucker, USA in 2003.

On the other, Sison assumed the position of Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, G2, Philippine Army. Both officers are members of the Philippine Military Academy "Sambisig" Class of 1991.

Sison also underwent Command and General Staff Course at the AFP Command and General Staff College and holds a master’s degree in Public Management Major in Development and Society from the Development Academy of the Philippines in Tagaytay City. He was previously assigned as the Joint Intelligence Task Force Sulu Commander before his stint as G1.

The G1 is the primary staff of the Army Commanding General regarding matters on personnel management. Among the G1’s many responsibilities are the formulation and reviewing of plans, programs, policies and procedures to efficiently administer to Army personnel. It also coordinates and supervises the special and technical staff offices and units within the Army headquarters.

Colonel Camba will pick up on where Colonel Sison's initiatives left off for the benefit of our troops. The Philippine Army acknowledges personnel management as a vital function such that the command can continuously and effectively serve the Filipino people", said Lt. Col.
