FORT ANDRES BONIFACIO, Taguig City – In support of the 30th Southeast Asian Games, Philippine Army personnel are deployed under the Philippine National Police’s Inter-Agency Security Task Force (STF) to provide security to more than 17,000 event participants from November 30 to December 11.
With about 17, 000 athletes and team officials involved in the games and thousands of international and local media, volunteers and technical officials who will be running the event, the PNP created the STF to undertake security, peace and order, and emergency preparedness and response operations. The STF is supported by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and other government agencies.
As the main force provider of the AFP, the Army augments its Explosive Ordnance Disposal Teams; K9 Teams; Civil Disturbance Management Teams; Medical Teams; Communications, Electronics, and Information Systems Ready-Deployable Teams; a pool of cadet volunteers from the Army Reserve Command; and other security personnel.
The STF personnel are deployed in the SEA GAMES’s main hub in Clark, secondary hub in Subic, tertiary hub in Metro Manila as well as in other venues in Biñan, Calatagan, La Union, Muntinlupa, Sta Rosa, and Tagaytay.
The SEA GAMES is a regional multi-sport event with 10 participating countries namely, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste and Vietnam. This year, there will be a total of 529 events for 56 sports to be held in about 43 competition venues.
