Army Support Command launches Child Minding Facility

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army Support Command (ASCOM) holds a launching activity for its new Child Minding Facilty at ASCOM Headquarters today, December 19.

The facilty which was named as the “Kiddie Hub” was built to provide soldiers’ children a safe play and learning room while their parents are working in their respective assignments.

The Kiddie Hub, under the Gender Mainstreaming Program, serves as one of ASCOM’s strategic projects in support to the Army Transformation Roadmap as it complies with the Magna Carta of Women that gives importance to the establishment of Child Minding Facilities for women in the Military.

“While having my work, kung di ko sya maasikaso, nandyan ‘yung Child Minding Facility wherein I know na safe yung anak ko and at the same time nadedevelop yung social skills nya, emotional skills, cognitive skills and all of his total being,” said Maj. Sheryl K. Latay, Chief of ASCOM Gender and Development Office.

The Kiddie Hub is open daily during office hours with the Gender and Development personnel looking after the children. ASCOM, with the support of its stakeholders, also plans to install the same facility in various military camps in the country.

“Our families, especially the children, also share in the sacrifices inherent in the military profession. It is important that we give attention in promoting their welfare. The Army extends our gratitude to the personnel and the stakeholders who made this project possible.” said Army Spokesperson Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala.
