Slain officer given honors at Libingan ng mga Bayani

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila - The remains of the Army officer who was killed when a fellow soldier fired upon him as they were conducting clearing operations in the jungles of Pagayawan, Lanao Del Sur arrives at 11:20 a.m. today at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani to be given honors.

Second Lieutenant Mark Linne Banua and Sgt. Jhanjihan Carumba were shot dead by Cpl. Nao Mohammad Lassam using his issued R4 rifle. Five others were wounded during the shooting as Lassam fled the scene. The wounded personnel were immediately brought to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.

Lassam was the commander of a CAFGU detachment in Binidayan, Lanao del Sur when he served as guide for the troops conducting clearing operations the night before.

"We are currently investigating the matter as we exhaust all means to locate the alleged perpetrator and bring him back to military control, where he will be given due process. The Commanding General has ordered a manhunt to bring him back to face the bar of justice, as we encourage him to surrender. On the other hand we will provide the necessary assistance to the bereaved families," said Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala, the Army spokesperson.
