Army dons star ranks to six newly promoted generals

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila–The Philippine Army Commanding General donned star ranks to six newly promoted generals in a ceremony held at the Commander’s Lounge, Headquarters Philippine Army today, January 30, 2020.

Lt. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay donned the ranks to Maj. Gen. Eric C. Vinoya (Commander, 3rd Infantry Division), Brig. Gen. Anthony T. Cacayuran (Commander 54th Engineer Brigade), Brig. Gen. Wilbur C. Mamawag (Commander, 603rd Infantry Brigade, 6th Infantry Division), Brig. Gen. Norwyn Romeo P. Tolentino (Commander, 201st Infantry Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division), Brig. Gen. Rommel K. Tello (Commander, 902nd Infantry Brigade, 9th Infantry Division) and Brig. Gen. Gabriel C. Viray (Commander, 901st Infantry Brigade, 9th Infantry Division).

Other high ranking officers as well as the spouses of the newly promoted generals witnessed the ceremony.

The star rank belongs to officers occupying the highest leadership positions in the Army. A one-star general is referred to as a Brigadier General, two-star is a Major General, three-star a Lieutenant General, and four-star for a full General.

“The stars that you proudly wear on your shoulders reflect the excellence and level of commitment that you have evidently shown as a leader. I am proud of your accomplishments and I trust that you will be consistent in effectively carrying out your duties and responsibilities as commanders of your units,” said Gapay.#
