Army conducts exhibit at House of Representatives

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army on Monday, February 24, conducted an exhibit featuring its strategic direction to the House of Representatives at Batasang Pambansa Complex, Quezon City.

The exhibit, which was conducted in connection with Army’s 123rd Anniversary this coming March, aims to display the organization’s history, current activities, and modernization thrusts.

The event highlighted Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay’s presentation of the Army’s strategic direction to the members of the Committee on National Defense and Security. “We take this opportunity to share our strategic direction and general aspirations with one of our most valued stakeholders and partners,” said Gapay.

Consistent with the Army’s Transformation Roadmap, the CGPA mentioned PA’s efforts in terms of capability development that were derived from the Landpower Maneuver Concept. The command’s initiative aims to transform the Army into a more credible ground force that is able to operate, survive, and triumph in a modern battlefield.
“The battle lines are not anymore clearly drawn nor the adversaries clearly identified. To remain relevant, the Army needs to maintain a proactive posture and keep pace with its ever expanding roles by continuously enhancing its capabilities and skills, in collaboration with its stake holders,” noted the CGPA.

Around 1,700 audiences from the members of Congress, National Security Committee, Civilian Human Resource, and military services visited the booths anchored in this year’s anniversary theme, “123 years of Gallantry and Dedication of Serving the People and Securing the land.”

Further, Congressman Raul Tupaz, Chairman of National Defense and Security Committee warmly welcomes the Army contingent headed by CGPA to the House of Congress. He personally thanked LTGen Gapay for the good exchange and vivid presentation of the current thrusts of the Philippine Army for the defense of our nation. He looks forward for more engagements with his committee for future modernization plans of the Philippine Army.

18th Congress House Speaker Alan S. Cayetano who also delivered a message during the event said, “We welcome the Philippine Army to the House of Congress, this event will be beneficial to the Filipinos, to us lawmakers, as we witness your broad mission in different mission areas. Let us make this interaction a yearly thing, we will extend [our] utmost assistance to your endeavor.”

Gapay also extended his gratitude to the members of the Congress for their support given to the Army. “We look forward to more collaborative undertakings with you in the future. Rest assured that the Philippine Army will remain committed in serving the people and securing the land,” said Gapay.#
