FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – Army Commanding General Gilbert I. Gapay visited the 8th Infantry Division today, February 25, 2020, at Camp General Vicente Lukban, Catbalogan City, Samar.
Gapay lauded the achievements of 8ID, led by Maj. Gen. Pio Q. Dionisio III, in a Talk to the Troops activity.
On February 7, 2020, the 8ID apprehended five (5) high-ranking CCP-NPA-Terrorists and recovering firearms, ammunitions, and explosives.
Part of the highlight of CGPA’s visit is the awarding of deserving personnel for their invaluable services rendered in the conduct of various military operations in the area of reaponsibility that contributed immensely to the attainment of the 8ID's mission.
Among the awardees were Cpt. Robert Ed B. Somera who received the Bronze Cross Medal, 1Lt. Reyzander K. Ga with Military Merit Medal (MMM) with Bronze Spearhead Device, Col. Danilo I. Dupiag with MMM with Gold Anahaw Leaf, and Pfc. Jinky M. Quiminales with Military Merit Medal.
8ID also turned over Captured, Confistcated, Surrendered and Recovered (CCSR) Firearms to the 8th Forward Service Support Unit. Said CCSR Firearms came from different Infantry Battalions and other AFP units.
Gapay also expressed his support for the division’s future plans in terms of the modernization of the Army and uplifting the morale of the troops.
“Remain aggressive in neutralizing the terrorist groups and in conducting peace and development initiatives, with our core values of honor, patriotism, and duty, together, let us make the Philippine Army a world-class army that is a source of national pride.” Gapay said. #
