Army celebrates National Women’s Month

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army part takes in the celebration of the month-long Observance of the National Women’s Month during an Army-wide Simultaneous Flag Raising Ceremony held here today, Mar. 2, 2020.

During the event, the Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay gave recognition to the important role and valuable contributions of women in the Army’s mission.

With the theme, “We Make Change Work for Women” the CGPA led the reading of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Felimon Santos Jr.’s message.

“Women empowerment calls for the following things: first, for women to be holders and active contributors of development; second, for the Magna Carta for Women’s rights to be functional and implemented at all levels; and finally, for us Filipinos, to enable our nation to leave no woman behind, as they exercise their rights in full and with no reservations,” quoted the CGPA.

The PA has lined up activities and programs promoting the celebration such as the online Advocacy Juana Says, Social Media Exhibit of Army Women stories, and Juana Leadership Conference, wherein the inspiring Philippine Army Women for 2020 will be awarded.

“Let us all cultivate a space where women are confident to build on their potentials, enhance their skills, and make their own choices - without being disrespected or unfairly treated by the society. This is what we aim to do. This is the change that we can and we will make,” the CGPA further reads.

March was designated as the “Women’s Role in History Month” under the 1988 Proclamation of Resolution Number 20. It highlights women’s historical contributions to the growth and strength of the nation.

“Nais kong batiin ang lahat ng ating mga kababaihan ng isang makabuluhang selebrasyon ng Women’s Month. Nawa ang okasyong ito ay magsilbing paalala sa ating lahat sa mahalagang papel na ginagampanan ng mga kababaihan sa ating organisasyon. Sama-sama nating itaguyod ang kanilang mga karapatan at palawigin ang kanilang kontribusyon sa mission ng Huknong Katihan ng Pilipinas at sa ating lipunan,” adressed Gapay.#
