Army launches Squad Sniper Challenge

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army launched its first Squad Sniper Challenge as part of its month-long anniversary celebration themed, “123 Years of Gallantry and Dedication in Serving the People and Securing the Land” at Camp O’Donnell, Capas Tarlac, on March 12, 2020.

The event was led by the Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command, Maj. Gen. Cornelio H. Valencia Jr. The six-day competition showcases sniper capabilities of different Army major units with two (2) shooters and one (1) coach per team. The participants will be competing in seven (7) events: Known Distance Range Firing, Fleeting Targets, Engagement of Moving Targets, Unknown Distance Range Firing, Alternate Shooting Position, Stalking and Pistol Match.

Valencia in his speech commended the participants’ excellence, for being chosen to represent their units in the competition, and continued to share about the event’s objective of showcasing the Army’s capacity to perform special missions in support to the nation’s desire to end local insurgency and terrorism. “This competency will significantly add value to our campaign and strengthen our success rate in performing our mandate of serving the people and securing the land,” he added.

“The Army Squad Sniper Challenge is a fitting event in promoting our soldier’s shooting capability as a critical skill in carrying out their duty, and a good demonstration of the Army’s endeavor to improve and capacitate its force in order to deliver better service to our nation,’ said Army Commanding General, Lt.
