Army vs NPA clash in Laguna leaves one terrorist dead

CAMP CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal – A terrorist NPA died in an encounter between the Army's 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division (2ID) and the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Famy, Laguna on Thursday afternoon, November 28.
Per reports from the 202nd Infantry Brigade, soldiers were conducting security operations following information from concerned citizens of extortion activities at Sitio Sigsigan in Barangay Bacong.

The troops were fired upon by an armed group, resulting in a firefight before the terrorists fled the site.

No casualty was reported on the government side, while a female NPA was reported dead, later identified as Agnes Lingay, known as Jimy, Judy, and Esek in the underground movement.

The soldiers also recovered at the encounter site a short firearm with a magazine containing six live ammunition, a backpack, a handheld radio, a headset, and assorted medicines and personal belongings.

"The support of our fellow citizens is a testament to their confidence in our efforts to maintain peace and security. Rest assured, we remain committed to protecting our communities and responding promptly to any threats that endanger their safety and well-being," 2ID commander Maj. Gen. Cerilo Balaoro Jr said in a statement.

He also stressed that while the government does not rejoice in the loss of lives, it remains resolute in its mission to end insurgency and restore lasting peace in affected areas.

Maj. Gen. Balaoro further urged the remaining members of the CTG to abandon their armed struggle and embrace the opportunities the government offers through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), for a peaceful and better future.
