2 rebel surrenderers reveal arms cache in Quezon
CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - Two NPA members surrendered to the government forces and revealed the location of an arms cache in General Nakar, Quezon on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
Troops of the 1st Infantry “Always First” Battalion facilitated the surrender of alias Gelo and alias Gely at Sitio Dadiyangaw in Barangay Umiray. Both are members of Platun 2 YGM from KLG Narciso of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee. During debriefing, the pair revealed the location of a hidden arms cache which subsequently led to the recovery of a shotgun, one cal.45 pistol, a magazine, and 20 rounds of live ammunition at Sitio Makatong-katong in the said barangay.
In a statement, 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong attributed the surrender of the NPA members and the discovery of their arms cache to the effectiveness of the Task Forces to End Local Communist Armed Conflict together with their partner LGUs, stakeholders, and the security sector. He added that this development underscores the importance of government efforts to encourage insurgents to return to the fold of the law, contribute to nation-building, and achieve lasting peace in Southern Tagalog.
