Apprehended NPA leader's tip leads to discovery of IEDs, bomb cache in Batangas
CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - A tip from a recently apprehended NPA leader led to the discovery of Improvised Explosive Devices and bombs cache in Nasugbu, Batangas on Saturday, April 1, 2023.
Soldiers of the 59th Infantry "Protector" Battalion acted on information regarding a bomb cache hidden in Sitio Naambon in Barangay Kaylawa. Its location was revealed by Alfred Manalo alias Sayko, the platoon leader of SPP KAWING from the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee's Sub-Regional Military Area 4C, who was arrested by the government forces during an operation last March 26 in barangay Calzada, Balayan after the troops received reports from residents regarding the presence of the SRMA 4C's Tax Implementing Unit in the said barangay. Among the items recovered by the troops were two three-kilogram PBC-type landmines, two rolls of 50-meter flat cord wire, and three bandoliers.
According to Manalo, the IEDs and bombs were made by the rebels for their raid in Hamilo Coast-Pico de Loro at Barangay Papaya in Nasugbu, Batangas in January 2017.
"This development is a testament to our efforts of winning the trust of our kababayans who were fighting for the CPP-NPA-NDF's worthless cause. With this, we have decreased the Communist Terrorist Group's capabilities and have prevented them from being able to utilize the IEDs and bomb cache to sow terror in our communities. We are urging the remaining terrorists to yield to the folds of the law and avail the government programs and benefits to help them start their lives anew," 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong said in a statement.
