Army, Air Force conduct retrieval operations after 4 residents died in Quezon landslide
CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - Troops of the Philippine Army and Philippine Air Force conducted retrieval operations after four residents and an unborn baby died in a landslide in General Nakar, Quezon on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.
Residents, barangay officials, and troops from the 80th Infantry “Steadfast” Battalion of the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division and PAF’s Tactical Operations Group 4 conducted search, rescue, and retrieval operations at Sitio Angelo in Barangay Umiray following a landslide caused by the continuous heavy downpour on Tuesday evening.
Rescuers retrieved four cadavers identified as Romel Binalao, 49 years old; Sheryl Delos Angeles, 37 years old; Jonathan Delos Angeles, 39 years old; and the alleged pregnant victim, Dionelyn Datario, 36 years old. They were transported via two helicopters from Sitio Angelo to Camp Capinpin for post-mortem examinations before they were released to their families.
General Nakar Municipal Mayor Hon. Eliseo R. Ruzol, together with representatives of Quezon Provincial Governor Hon. Angeline “Doktora Helen” D.L. Tan and Tanay LGU personally extended their condolences to the families of the victims and provided immediate financial assistance.
Meanwhile, the families of the victims expressed their gratitude to the 2nd Infantry Division and LGUs of Gen. Nakar and Tanay for their swift response to the incident and the support they have received amidst the tragedy.
In a statement, the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong extended his sincere condolences to the affected families and assured them of all necessary assistance and support during this difficult time.
He also commended the residents, barangay officials, and the Army and Air Force troops for their swift response and efforts in the search, rescue, and retrieval operations, emphasizing the importance of unity and community support during these challenging times.
