Army's 2ID condemns NPA attack after 2 clashes in Rizal

CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - The Philippine Army's 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division condemned the violent acts of the New People's Army following the two consecutive encounters between the government forces and the members of the NPA in Rodriguez, Rizal on Friday, March 31, 2023.

Joint troops from the 80th Infantry "Steadfast" Battalion from the 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division, 70th Infantry "Matapat at Matatag" Battalion from the 7th Infantry "Kaugnay" Division, Rizal PNP, and Rodriguez PNP were acting on reports from concerned citizens about the presence of armed personalities at Sitio Wawa in Barangay San Rafael. This led to two encounters against 30 rebels belonging to the KLG Narciso from the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee's Sub-Regional Military Area 4A. The firefights lasted for 15 minutes and 10 minutes, respectively, wherein one soldier perished while two others were injured. Casualty on the NPA's side is still being determined.

The military condemned these attacks which happened only a few days after the series of clashes in Masbate; one of which was near a school and claimed the life of one soldier. The government forces are now increasing their presence across Rodriguez and its nearby municipalities to prevent similar incidents from happening.

2ID and Joint Task Force Katagalugan Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong expressed his sympathy to the affected families of the soldiers and assured them that the troops' sacrifices will not be wasted as they will further intensify their efforts to eradicate the communist terrorists in their area. He also added that the growing confidence and support of the public will only serve to strengthen their thrust across Southern Tagalog.

"Our communities' growing trust and support to the authorities has been vital in foiling the NPA's recovery efforts here in CALABARZON. We have further intensified our ongoing efforts to put an end to the local communist armed conflict here that's why we are urging the remaining NPA rebels to return to the folds of the law and work with the government for peace and development," 2ID Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong said in a statement.
