Batangas gov’t welcomes surrender of formerly apprehended militia

The government of Batangas welcomed the yielding of a formerly arrested Milisyang Bayan member in Rosario, Batangas on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

With assistance from the 59th Infantry “Protector” Battalion, Batangas PNP, and Rosario PNP, the Barangay Task Force to End Local Terrorist Armed Conflict of Tulos, led by its barangay chairman Hon. Bernardo V Mendoza, facilitated the surrender of an MB member of SPP Kawing from the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee who have previously been apprehended last March 26, 2023 at Barangay Calzada in Balayan, Batangas.

After having been in inquest for seven months, the said personality was released. He then decided to voluntarily yield and return to the folds of the law. He also surrendered one cal.30 rifle.

In a statement, 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong underscored the importance of collective efforts of all levels of government, the security sector, and valued stakeholders in achieving this successful surrender, adding that it stands as a testament to the effectiveness of their peace and people-centric approach.

He then encouraged the few remaining rebels to heed the government's call for peace, emphasizing that returning to the folds of the law would enable them to avail themselves of government programs and benefits designed to assist in their reintegration into society.
