CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - A  cadaver believed to be a New People's Army member was discovered near the site of the recent NPA ambush in Tagkawayan, Quezon on Friday, September 8, 2023.

Troops of the 85th Infantry "Sandiwa" Battalion and Tagkawayan PNP were acting on information regarding a cadaver buried at Sitio Katikan in Barangay Mapulot when they unearthed a decomposing cadaver wrapped in a sack believed to be of an NPA member who was wounded during the recent ambush near the boundary of Labo, Camarines Norte and Tagkawayan, Quezon last September 1 and left buried in a shallow grave by his fellow NPA.

According to initial reports from medical authorities, the cadaver has a gunshot wound in the neck. He has been given a decent burial in the municipal cemetery by the Tagkawayan LGU later that same day.

The 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong reiterated that the military will never rejoice in the death of our fellowmen who were deceived by the CPP-NPA-NDF. He also expressed his sympathies to the family of the NPA member and encouraged the remaining rebels to heed the government's call for peace and surrender before they suffer the same fate as their comrade.
