Demoralized NPA surrenders to Army-PNP in Occidental Mindoro

CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - A demoralized member of the New People’s Army
yielded to the soldiers and police in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro on Thursday, March 21, 2024.

A 19-year-old resident of Sitio Kastila, Barangay General Emilio Aguinaldo in
Sablayan and a member of the remnants of Platun GMT of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee surrendered to the troops of the 68th Infantry “Kaagapay” Battalion and Occidental Mindoro PNP in Barangay Murtha, San Jose.

According to reports, the surrenderee was recruited on February 25, 2023, and
decided to lay low as he felt uncertain about his future as a rebel after the group was encountered by soldiers at Brgy Malisbong in Sablayan last May 30, 2023.

In a statement, the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division Commander Maj. Gen.
Roberto S. Capulong commended the wise decision of the rebel returnee to abandon armed struggle and instead begin a new life in the folds of the law.

He also said that the development serves as a clear message to the remaining insurgents that there is a better future awaiting them if they choose the path of peace and reconciliation.
