Former NPA leader tips off another arms cache in Batangas
CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal – A former NPA leader led to another discovery of arms cache in Taysan, Batangas on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.
Soldiers from the 59th Infantry "Protector" Battalion acted on the information about the arms cache that was hidden by alias Sayko, a former NPA leader who was recently apprehended and is now providing useful information about his previous tasks as a former rebel. Sayko revealed that he hid the arms cache in the vicinity of Brgy. Guinhawa, Tayasan Batangas, and said that the war materiel was hidden due to an excess load resulting from an increase in AWOLs on their side. He was tasked with burying them to ease their burden of carrying additional baggage. Among the items discovered were one improvised explosive device and three M16 upper receivers. Troops coordinated with Batangas PNP for the proper disposal of war materiel.
It can be recalled that valuable information from alias Sayko led to a series of war materiel discoveries in various locations across Batangas on April 1, 8, 16, and 30. Accordingly, the war materiel was hidden by the NPA for their future atrocities against security forces in the area.
"The recent discovery of arms cache based on valuable information from a former rebel bespeak his, and the communities’ growing trust towards the government’s peace initiatives. We are grateful for the concerted efforts of the LGUs, key stakeholders and kababayans that prevented the Communist Terrorist Groups from using this war materiel to sow terror in our communities. Again, we urge the remaining rebels to return to the folds of the law to start a new life with their families.”, 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division Commander Maj. General Roberto S. Capulong said in a statement.
