Former rebel tips off war materiel in Oriental Mindoro
CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - Information from a former rebel led to the recovery of war materiel in Gloria, Oriental Mindoro on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
Troops of the 76th Infantry “Victrix” Battalion acted on revelation from a former member of Platun ICM and the Main Regional Guerilla Unit of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee who surrendered to the government forces. The information included the location of the war materiel at Sitio Pakpak-lawin in Barangay Manguyang.
Among the items recovered by the soldiers were one cal.38 revolver, a blasting cap, 63 rounds of live ammunition, three commercial radios, 2 mobile phones, 6 backpacks, medical paraphernalia, personal belongings, and subversive documents.
In a statement, the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong lauded the cooperation of the former rebels, emphasizing that such collaboration with the government, as well as the recovery of war materiel, is seen as a significant achievement in the collective efforts to address insurgency and maintain peace in the region.
He then urged the few remaining rebels to consider following the example set by the former rebels, highlighting the potential for a peaceful reintegration into society.
