Major surrenders and mass support withdrawal strike blow to insurgency in Mindoro 

CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal – In a significant development in the government's efforts to combat insurgency, a ceremony was held that saw the formal surrender of an NPA and four Communist Terrorist Group couriers with five firearms and the withdrawal of support of over 700 CPP-NPA-NDF supporters in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro on Friday, May 26, 2023.

The successful surrender and withdrawal of support were achieved through the collaborative efforts of the San Jose Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict in Occidental Mindoro, led by Mayor Hon. Rey C. Lagada. Joint troops from the 68th Infantry "Kaagapay" Battalion and Occidental Mindoro PNP facilitated a mass surrender and withdrawal of support ceremony following a Serbisyo Caravan in Barangay Naibuan. Present during the event were PTF-ELCAC Focal Person Mr. Voltaire Valdez, Provincial Prosecutor/Fiscal Atty. Roberto Santo, MLGOO San Jose Mr. James Guillermo, MPOC Chairperson Hon. Jimmy S Holgado, as well as representatives from DSWD, TESDA, DepEd, PAO, NCIP, PhilHealth, and other stakeholders.

The highlights of the event included the surrender of Daboy Aysagan, Supply Officer of Platun Truman from the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee’s KLG MAV, along with four CTG couriers, who handed over five homemade shotguns. The ceremony witnessed the withdrawal of support and condemnation from the CPP-NPA-NDF by 5 former SPL members, 24 former MB members, 123 CTG supporters, and 534 community members. Notably, the event also marked the disaffiliation of 45 members from the Tarabangan Iyanan Buhid Sasdatag (TIBS) mass organization, which was previously affiliated with the CTG and led by alias Maan, Secretary of KLG MAV, and alias Baynaw.

Speaking on the occasion, 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong, Commander emphasized the significance of collaboration with various Task Forces to End Local Communist Armed Conflict in fostering peace and development across Mindoro.

"Our close coordination with the various Task Forces to End Local Communist Armed Conflict has been very valuable in our peace and development efforts across Mindoro.  We this, we are calling the remaining the remaining members of the rebel groups, now is the perfect time to return to the government’s side.  Let us work together to bring peace and development here in Southern Tagalog Region," said Maj. Gen. Capulong.
