More tips from apprehended NPA leader lead to another discovery of IEDs, landmines in Batangas
CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - New information from a recently apprehended NPA leader led to another discovery of Improvised Explosive Devices and landmines in Nasugbu, Batangas on Saturday, April 8, 2023.
Soldiers of the 59th Infantry "Protector" Battalion acted on information regarding a bomb cache hidden at Mount Batulao in Brgy Kaylaway. Its location was revealed by Alfred Manalo alias Sayko, the platoon leader of SPP KAWING from the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee's Sub-Regional Military Area 4C, who was arrested by the government forces during an operation last March 26 in barangay Calzada, Balayan after the troops received reports from residents regarding the presence of the SRMA 4C's Tax Implementing Unit in the said barangay. Among the items recovered by the troops were two IEDs and landmines.
It can be recalled that just last April 1, IEDs and a bombs cache were unearthed by troops and police at Sitio Naambon in the said barangay after Manalo revealed the location of where he hid the explosives which were made by the rebels for their raid in Hamilo Coast-Pico de Loro at Barangay Papaya in Nasugbu, Batangas in January 2017.
“We are grateful for the concerted efforts of the LGUs, key stakeholders, and kababayans that have prevented the Communist Terrorists Groups from using the IEDs and landmines to spread fear in our communities. We encourage the remaining terrorists to heed our call for peace to begin a new life with their families because we will be relentless in ensuring our communities are free from the CPP-NPA-NDF," 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong said in a statement.
