Soldiers recover war materiel in Mindoro encounter
CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - Soldiers of the 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division recovered war materiel following an operation against members of the New People's Army in Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro on Sunday, October 1, 2023.
Troops were conducting combat operations when they encountered around seven armed personalities who are remnants of Platun Serna from the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee at Sitio Kulitob in Barangay Panaytayan. The encounter resulted in the recovery of one M16 rifle, one UZI sub-machine gun, two magazines with live ammunition, five blasting caps, one backpack, a detonating cord, several medical supplies, and other war materiel.
In a statement, 2ID Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong emphasized the importance of these operations in neutralizing threats posed by armed groups and ensuring the safety of local communities. He also expressed his gratitude to the residents who provided valuable information and support, highlighting the collaborative effort in upholding peace and stability in Mindoro Island.
