NPA member surrenders with firearm, explosives in Oriental Mindoro

CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - A New People’s Army member yielded to the government forces with a firearm in Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

 

Troops of the 76th Infantry “Victrix” Battalion facilitated the surrender of alias Royet, a remnant of Platun ICM from the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee and a resident of Sitio Centro in Barangay Sigange. Alias Royet also brought with him a homemade shotgun and four anti-personnel mines.

In a statement, the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong emphasized that the surrender of Alias Royet, along with the recovery of a homemade shotgun and anti-personnel mines, is a significant step towards achieving lasting peace in Mindoro with the collaboration of various ELCAC Task Forces, government instrumentalities, and stakeholders. He also reiterated the government's commitment to provide support and opportunities for former rebels like Alias Royet as they reintegrate into mainstream society.
