Philippines, Australia armies successfully culminates “Kasangga” Exercise

CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - The Philippines and Australian armies successfully culminates Army-to-Army Exercise "Kasangga" 2023-2 on Friday, June 23, 2023.

The closing ceremony was led by the Commander, 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division, Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong with the Commanding General of the Philippine Army, Lieutenant General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., as Keynote Speaker.  Lieutenant Colonel Tim Lopsik, the Assistant Defense Attaché of the Australian Embassy represented the Australian delegation.

The two-month-long joint exercise was participated by a total of 26 officers and 220 enlisted personnel from 2ID’s 21st and 22nd Division Reconnaissance Companies, and Headquarters Service Company together with 4 officers and 39 enlisted personnel from the 7th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment. Throughout the exercise, the Australian armies imparted their expertise in military operation in urban terrain, in exchange, 2ID troops shared their knowledge and experiences in jungle warfare operations to their foreign counterparts.

During the ceremony, Lieutenant General Brawner Jr. emphasized the enduring partnership between Australia and the Philippines that has spanned several decades. He highlighted the significant milestones achieved since the Philippines' liberation in 1943 and praised the Kasangga Exercise as another successful manifestation of collaboration between the two nations.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Capulong in his remarks, said that the Kasangga exercise enabled the troops to enhance their tactical proficiency and interoperability while fostering cultural understanding.

“The "Kasangga" exercise has brought together the best of both the Philippine Army and the Australian Army, fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of our shared values, experiences, and commitment to regional security. The skills honed and the lessons we’ve learned throughout this exercise will undoubtedly contribute to our collective readiness and effectiveness in addressing the evolving security challenges of our time.”
