Quezon celebrates Independence Day as insurgency-free province
CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - The Quezon Province celebrated the nation's 125th Independence Day as an insurgency-free province following the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and the declaration of the province as Stable with Internal Peace and Security in Lucena City, Quezon on Monday, June 12, 2023.
The ceremony, which was held at the Quezon Convention Center, was headed by Quezon Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict Chairperson and Quezon Governor Dr. Angelina D.L. Tan and was attended by Southern Luzon Commander Lt. Gen. Efren P. Baluyot, 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong, 202nd Infantry "Unifier" Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Cerilo C. Balaoro Jr., 85th Infantry "Sandiwa" Battalion Commanding Officer Col. Joel R. Jonson, and other partners from the Philippine National Police, National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, and Department of Interior and Local Government.
Gov. Tan expressed her appreciation to various stakeholders and the public for their valuable contributions to the successful and meaningful occasion, acknowledging the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the PNP for their pivotal role in ensuring peace and security, which greatly contributed to the province achieving its SIPS status. Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Baluyot also conveyed his gratitude for the province's rapid socio-economic progress. He underscored that this accomplishment serves as evidence of the collective responsibility shared by all sectors of society.
"Our journey towards SIPS has been made possible through our unwavering partnership with Local Government Units, the Security Sector, and other key stakeholders and I am confident that our success here in Quezon would be a catalyst for other municipalities and provinces of Southern Tagalog to finally be insurgency-free," 2ID Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong said in a statement.
