Soldiers recover war materiel after Army-NPA encounter in Quezon

CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - Soldiers have recovered war materiel following an encounter between the government forces and rebels in San Andres, Quezon on Friday, January 27, 2023.


On January 27, troops from the 85th Infantry Battalion, the Philippine Air Force, and Quezon PNP were conducting combat operations at Barangay Pansoy in San Andres which led to a 45-minute firefight against 15 armed personalities believed to be members of Platun Reymark led by Cecilia Mondia alias Mitch from the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee's Sub-Regional Military Area 4B. One soldier was wounded during the encounter and was brought to the hospital, while casualties on the rebels' side are still being determined after blood was seen at the encounter site. Among the items recovered by the troops were one IED, a cell phone, three blasting caps, one short magazine, 25 rounds of 5.56mm cartridges, 58 rounds of 7.62mm cartridges, subversive documents, one CPP flag, three bags, and other personal belongings. Pursuit operations are now ongoing against the fleeing rebels.


"We will continue our focused military operations to eradicate the local insurgency in the province and ensure the depletion of arms of the Communist Terrorist Group. Once again, we urge the remaining rebels to leave the armed struggle and return to the folds of the law," 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong said in a statement.
