Soldiers recover war materiel in Batangas encounter

 

CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - Troops of the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division captured war materiel following an encounter between the government forces and New People’s Army members in Taysan, Batangas on Friday, February 2, 2024.

Soldiers of the 59th Infantry “Protector” Battalion were conducting focused military operations in Sitio Centro, Barangay Guinhawa when they encountered the terrorist groups, which led to a brief firefight before the NPAs fled.

Three more encounters occurred on the same day between the troops and the communist terrorists and led to the soldiers recovering Anti-Personnel Mines, three backpacks, and food supplies left by the fleeing NPAs. One soldier was wounded and was brought to the hospital, while casualties on the terrorist group's side are still being verified.

In a statement, 2ID Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong emphasized the significance of recovering the war materiel which could have posed a serious threat to civilian lives.

He urged the community members to remain vigilant and report to authorities any suspicious activities and reiterated that 2ID remains committed to eradicating insurgency and fostering peace and development in Batangas.
