Tip from a former NPA leader resulted in the recovery of an arms cache in Batangas
 
CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - Information from a former NPA leader who surrendered to the government forces resulted in the recovery of an arms cache in Balayan, Batangas on Tuesday, January 2, 2023.
 
Acting on a tip from the former platoon leader of SPP Kawing from the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee, soldiers of the 59th Infantry “Protector” Battalion together with personnel from the Batangas PNP and Balayan PNP unearthed a hidden arms cache at Sitio Sales in Barangay Pooc.
 
Among the items recovered were two sets of 6-kilogram improvised landmines, 10 improvised hand grenades, 105 cartridges of 5.56mm, 2 pieces of IED opener, one IED canister, a bandolier, one pack of fertilizer, and a butane.
 
In a statement, the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong emphasized that such collaboration is essential in dismantling rebel forces and ensuring the safety and security of local communities. He added that the recovery of the arms cache is not only a blow to the Communist Terrorist Group’s firepower but also serves as a testament to the government's commitment to addressing security threats and fostering a climate of peace and stability in Batangas and the entire CALABARZON region.
