Army reservists respond to boat sinking in Laguna

CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal - Reservists from the Philippine Army's 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division assisted in the ongoing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) efforts following the capsizing of a passenger ferry in Laguna Lake near Binangonan on Thursday, July 27.

A total of 14 reservists from the 405th Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion immediately proceeded to provide assistance and augment the ongoing search and rescue operations at Pritil in Barangay Libis. The troops also proceeded to Barangay Kalinawan of the same municipality where most of the victims were evacuated.

As of current writing, forty-three survivors were rescued while 27 were confirmed casualties in the said incident.

The 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong expressed his appreciation for the heroic efforts of the reservists. Likewise, he extended his deepest sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones and assured the public that 2ID will continue providing support in carrying out a thorough response to the tragic incident.
